The Best Lip Treatement

With these dry and winter days right around the corner, preparing our skin should start right now. As we nourish and exfoliate our most vital organ, we tend to forget one key part of our beautiful faces….OUR LIPS.  And with the berry stained lips becoming the fall-to-winter trend; having a cracked or a lack-luster pout will ruin any beauty gals day. This is why I have provided three of my favorite lip scrubs to get you through these next couple of months. Below you will find DIY tutorials as well as the best in the beauty business for lip treatments that I have tried. Of course, this is my personal opinion, but I have gathered my girlfriends favorites as well, for just a little less bias. Enjoy!

Beauty Report: The High/Low List

Beauty Report: The High/Low List

High-Low List

The age old adage, “You Get What You Pay For,” is something that I often hear people say. However, is it really true? Are we savvy consumers able to find similar items with the same quality? We all wish we could afford the La Mer Face Cream for $310.00 but sometimes our budgets don’t allow this behavior. But on the flip side, does our economical shopping sprees at drug stores actually add up to this amount. The discussion on whether buying the La Mer versus Nutrogena shouldn’t be about the price but rather the value of the cream. In other words, what benefits does the pricer items provide that the rather inexpensive ones are not able to offer. That’s what the adage really entails. My solution, especially on a budget, is that you need a mix of both. In order to get the best bang for your buck, you need to combine high-quality, value-worthy items with the drug-store brands to have the finest results.

Below I provided solutions on both ends of the spectrum. You can pick and choose which ones fit your needs as well as what you can afford. Tailoring your shopping cart to your essentials will have the greatest effect in the long run. Enjoy!

The High/Low List: Face Cream

The High low List face cream

La Mer Face Cream ($310.00) / Kiehl’s Moisturizing Face Cream ($26.00)

La Mer
With the nutrient-rich sea broth provided by Kelp, the “Miracle Broth” AKA La Mer Face Cream promises to bring life back into your dulling skin. Yes, it will set you back $310.00 for a 2 oz jar, however, the abundance of happy reviews as well as the numerous awards this product owns, lets you know it’s high-quality and works. If you want to start with the right products for your skin regimen, this is one product you should put on your wish list.

Kiehl’s
However, for a fraction of the cost, KIEHL’S Moisturizing Face Cream, promises to do the same, especially for dry skin. This brand is never one to disappoint and uses quality ingredients as well, such as glycoproteins to lock in moisture and smooth the skin. It boasts a healthy review of over 650 happy customers, alone, on its site.

The High/Low List: Mascara

The High/low List Mascara

Chantecaille Faux Cils Longest Lash Mascara-Colorless ($70.00) / Elf 3-in-1 Mascara ($5.48)

We want our mascara to create longer and thicker lashes. Make those beauties pop, please. However, when it comes to coating the lower lashes, most brands fall pretty short. For me, the wands are designed for the upper lashes, but way too cumbersome for the lowers. This is why, Elf 3-in-1 Mascara shines above most high-end mascaras. It’s rounded edge easily covers the lowers, while the uppers are lengthened by the rest of the wand. Here’s one area, where you can save on your beauty supplies.

The High/Low List: Nails

The High/low List Nail Polish

Burberry Beauty Nail Polish ($22.00) / Whim Reds Nail Lacquer ($10.00)

With both products looking identical in structure and promising similar long wear/no chip duration, it would be hard to cough up 12.00 more for the exclusive brand of Burberrys. However, I should add that nail polish is one area where I tend to save my pennies, so this may be why I would go for the later. If you have tried Burberry’s, what’s your thoughts?

The High/Low List: Contouring

The High/low List Contour

Anastasia Contour Kit ($40.00) / 1PC CITY COLOR CONTOUR EFFECTS PALETTE ($6.42)

Here’s my 2-cents on contouring pallets, which stems from my history of oil-painting. If you are going to try this technique, the most effective and natural looks are from multi skin-tone pallets, not just a bronzer and/or highlighter. The second one from 1PC City Color Contour may be a great buy at $6.99, but powder based application with only three tones, when compared to Anastasia’s kit of six, falls quite short.

5 Beauty Trends You Should Know

5 Beauty Trends You Should Know

Beauty Trends

When it comes to fads, I’m not one to jump on the “band-wagon,” so to speak. My mentality is to wait out the storm and see what the overall conception of the product produces over time. However, some trends are just too good or weird  and should be shown to you all. I should admit that I haven’t tried all of these items. In fact, one of them, “Sprouts from the Head,” has not been released to the U.S. but it was innovative enough to show to you all. Enjoy!

Beauty Trend: Microneedling

Beauty Trends Microneedling

I own and love the Rodan + Fields Redefine AMP MD Micro-Exfoliating Roller. This at-home device is one innovation that is intended to stimulate collagen production. On a larger scale, this treatment called microneedling, is actually performed at a physicians office, where the microneedle is combined with radio-frequency to improve and plump skin damaged by acne, deep wrinkles and scars.

Beauty Trend: Ecaille

Beauty Trends Ecaille

Move over ombre and the softer version sombre, we now have a new force in town, Ecaille. This Parisian style is the latest 2015 trend and is the richer, more natural form of the ombre look. More dimension is added with richer browns and golden or caramel balayage is placed around the head. I, for one, love this technique and have actually made an appointment to have this reproduced. Stay tuned for those photos.

100 Years of Wedding Gowns and Lingerie

100 Years of Wedding Gowns and Lingerie

100 Years of Lingerie

Back in April, when I first started writing, I shared a video that demonstrated the transformation of beauty trends throughout the last century as well as the fads that had instantly surfaced and just as quickly died. Since then, these “100 Years of (Fill in the Blank)” have been quite popular on Youtube. For me, these videos demonstrate why fashion is not about the labels or the amount of money spent on apparel or products. It’s a walking historical perspective of our society. Fashion shows the adaptation that society has demonstrated with cultural change. It speaks about the history of art and design. By just observation alone, you’re learning without realizing it. Every movement in art is commenced by a historical event or preceded by such. And when you really start to evaluate these eras, well, that’s when things start to get interesting. However, I’m starting to get off track and would love to discuss my fondness of Art, but this is about the 100 Years of Beauty, especially the ones I recently found.

Lucky for me, my boyfriend was browsing on Twitter and happened to come across this very obsession but in this case, it’s even better. It’s 100 Years of Wedding Gowns and Lingerie. I’ve copied both videos for your enjoyment. Perhaps it is just me, but if the lingerie video is correct, we have sincerely screwed up as time as gone on. But this could also explain why I’m such  a Vintage Girl at heart. Maybe I was born in the wrong time period, either way, these are some great videos to explore. Enjoy!

100 Years of Wedding Gowns

My favorite era has to be ’45 but I’m a sucker for lace.

100 Years of Lingerie

Everything from the ’70s and prior is splendid. However, after that, it looks plain and especially cheap.

Kudos for the creativity, I must add.  I started out with one of the most simple but only a few can pull this off.

Supplies: Cardboard, A month’s worth of bread…and genetics or a bottle of Nice’N’Easy in “Copper Carrot.”
